My name is Emalee Brown, I am a senior studying Public Relations at Georgia Southern University. I grew up in the beautiful town of Savannah, Georgia and am lucky to be spending my final semester of college interning with Abshire PR here in my favorite city.

My love for writing, blogging and visual aesthetics is what originally led me to pursue the field of Public Relations. Since studying PR in my academics, I have also gained hands-on experience in the field through various leadership positions and internships. In the spring of 2018, I had the opportunity to gain insight and experience in the nonprofit sector of PR as I interned with the Alzheimer’s Association of Coastal Georgia. During my internship, I worked with the Director of Relationship Events in the planning, promotion and facilitation of the annual Dancing Stars of Coastal Georgia Gala. Also last spring, I had the opportunity to serve as the Public Relations Chair for my sorority, Phi Mu. Taking on a leadership role in this organization was an opportunity I had hoped for since becoming a new member in the fall of 2015, and it was even more fulfilling to serve in a role that I’m so passionate about. Through these experiences, I have become incredibly passionate about the field of PR and hope to continue pursuing it for many years in the future.

My name is Kenzi Williams and I am a 22-year-old from Newnan, Georgia. I lived in Newnan basically my whole life except for two years of my life I lived in the tiny town of Grove Hill, Alabama. Once I graduated high school in Newnan my parents decided to move to Blairsville, Georgia to run a great cabin business, but Newnan will always be home to me.

Once I graduated high school I decided to come down to Statesboro, Georgia and attend Georgia Southern University. I immediately decided I wanted to study Fashion Merchandising and I think I am one of the few college students that has stuck with my choice of major for the entirety of my college career. I knew I wanted to go into a line of work after college that did not require me to sit behind a computer all day and I have always loved everything about the fashion industry, so it was an easy choice for me. The fashion industry has so many different branches you can choose from, so narrowing down exactly what I want to do has been the biggest obstacle to overcome. I decided to take Intro to Public Relations as an elective course to see if it was anything I would be interested in, and I absolutely loved the class. I took that class my first semester of senior year and within the first few weeks I knew I wanted to go into Fashion Public Relations.

I am now in my last semester of college and being a fashion student at Georgia Southern University it is a requirement to use your last semester of college solely for an internship. I sent out my resume to multiple PR firms hoping someone would even want a fashion student to intern for them and to my surprise I got more responses back than I expected. I interviewed with Abshire Public Relations and immediately knew I wanted to intern for them. I spoke with Shannon and she seemed so down to earth yet professional at the same time and I knew that is the type of person I would want to work with. It is now my third week interning for Abshire PR and I absolutely love it. The people are incredible, and I have had an amazing experience so far. Although Abshire PR is not necessarily a fashion pr firm, I am gaining so much experience from this opportunity and can not to see where it leads me in the future.
